CELEBRATION DAY Saturday 18 April 10.30am-3pm The celebration day is a highlight of the Cultural Safari Afrika program, showcasing the arts, music, performance and food from a range of Brisbane’s African communities. The performance program includes a Traditional Welcome to Country followed by a diverse mix of traditional and contemporary dance, gospel hip-hop, fashion parades and headlining acts. Enjoy a mix of foods and refreshments from the African communities including Ethiopian coffee, Somali tea and sweets, and delicious food from Sudan, Sierra Leone and Eritrea. Traditional welcome Uncle Des Sandy, Aunty Delmae Barton and Kargun Fogarty, Traditional Owners of the area will warmly welcome the community to the event at 10.30am. Dance and performances Sudanese Bari dancers, Ethiopian Bahil dancers, Somali community dance, Congolese rumba dancers, The Simbo Boys (Congolese soukous dancers), African fashion parade and gospel hip-hop singer, Hudson. The afternoon reaches a crescendo with the energetic rhythms of the IndangaKaranga Burundi Drummers and will keep you dancing until the end with talented Afrodisa, a 5 piece line up playing West African rhythms.
